homeSPAN is a revolutionary concrete flooring system introduced into the UK and Ireland by Creagh Concrete consisting of flat precast concrete planks generally 600mm wide and 150mm deep. Designed and manufactured specifically for use in housing and apartment projects, homeSPAN is designed to carry domestic loading for spans up to 5m and therefore is a more cost effective option than other forms of concrete flooring such as prestressed hollowcore.

How does it work

homeSPAN reinforced hollowcore slabs are manufactured to differing lengths to accommodate each housing type. These are supported by the internal cavity wall and span across the upper floor. Spaces between the slabs are grouted on-site producing a solid structural floor that resists differential movement. Electrical and plumbing services as well as insulation and underfloor heating sit on top of this solid structure, tucked away underneath a screed or timber floor. Once the floor has been fitted, time can also be saved in plastering as homeSPAN has a rough underside to allow for direct plastering, suspended ceilings can still be fitted if the customer prefers.

If considering a concrete floor, you should discuss this with your architect at the initial stages of the design process so the system can be incorporated at the onset. On receipt of a copy of your plans, the homeSPAN team will provide a technical floor design and quotation free of charge. If you wish to proceed, the team will visit your site to take final measurements two weeks prior to delivery and then install and grout the floor within six hours, leaving a fully finished structural floor ready for your builder to continue work the next day.

At Ground Floor
Ground floor construction depends on ground conditions. The first stage is to dig down to reach load bearing stratas. If this distance is deeper than 600mm, a suspended floor is required – homeSPAN is the ideal option for this situation. Using homeSPAN at ground floor level enables the base of the house to be filled with site spoil eliminating the need for expensive hardcore fill. Under Floor Heating is more efficient with a homeSPAN floor.

At First Floor

  • homeSPAN concrete floors offer superior sound insulation at first floor.
  • homeSPAN concrete floors reduce sound transfer to a minimum cutting out the creaking of timber floors.
  • An average sized homeSPAN floor is completed in one day giving an immediate working platform.
  • Timber first floors require the expense of purchasing temporary plywood to board out the joists - this is eliminated with concrete.
  • Timber first floors are exposed to the elements. Following installation and once roof covering is on, the timber will suffer severe shrinkage. Concrete floors are not affected by the elements.
  • The depth of our floor units ties in with brickwork coursing.
  • Block partitions can be constructed off first floor concrete thus helping in sound efficiency and eliminating any stud partitions.
  • Greater spans are achievable with concrete without going to greater depths and without the need for any additional supports.
