The JEHU Group, was founded in 1935 and are now one of Wales’ largest independently owned construction companies. They consistently strive for high quality innovative developments and use modern methods of construction to achieve this. In a recent housing development in Burry Port, Wales, JEHU choose Spantherm, insulated precast concrete flooring to take the hassle out of the floor install.
The development is a 105 mixed tenure site for Pobl Group, with a small number being allocated as affordable homes and more than 80 being open market housing units. The timber-framed site is being completed across three phases, plus enabling works and infrastructure and completed in 2022.
Spantherm is designed specifically for use at ground floor level in residential and small-medium sized commercial projects. The composite slab combines structural grade reinforced concrete and high performance expanded polystyrene insulation to provide a thermally efficient structural floor.
Spantherm Benefits:
“We chose Spantherm because traditional beam & block doesn’t allow for design co-ordination prior to commencement. By using Spantherm we have eliminated a screed sub-contractor as the team do everything onsite, making it an easier solution. The process has been seamless and the design team were very confident in guiding us. The installation was extremely quick, with 8 plots being installed in 1 day & we have managed our program around that, using Spantherm as a critical path to get other activities to follow onsite. I would definitely use them going forward it has made the onsite installation a lot easier.” Sean Fenn, Contracts Manager, JEHU
Spantherm is installed in just minutes, not days. By producing high performance insulated concrete units off-site we have redefined the speed of installing a fully insulated floor. This is the next generation of structural flooring systems designed as the efficient alternative to labour intensive beam and block installations.
Housebuilders increasingly explore the opportunities for new ideas to reduce labour onsite and boost efficiency in the build it makes sense that they start with the ground floor. The initial appeal of Spantherm is clear, as a typical floor on a detached house or a pair of semis is fitted onsite in less than two hours.
JEHU opted for the work to be completed by Creagh’s expert fitting team, requiring no labour from them. Once in place and grouted, the floor achieves its full structural capability within 72 hours but building activity can commence on perimeter walls within 24 hours.
